165 YEARS LATER
acrylic painting, 3 X 100 cm X 150 cm, 2016-2017

The painting is a contemporary version of the pre-raphaelite work of "Ophelia" by J. E. Millais from 1851-52.

The work may also resemble the theme of the water lilies painting by Claude Monet. Motifs from art history are
a post-modern quote. Ophelia's body in the form of a skull in the water shows the passage of time, the mortality of the human body and stylistic changes in modern painting. Geometric shapes are inspired by new technology, digital style and low poly 3d models used in computer games.
